No Registration Stickers in Qld

You may, or may not be aware, but Qld will no longer require registrations stickers on vehicles from October 2014.

Since 1932 this has been a requirement. When you register – or renew registration on a car or light commercial car.

The process has been – one month out you get a renewal notice from Qld transport in the post.

On this notice there is a due by date.

Pay the registration renewal, of which pricing varies considerably between vehicle types and engine size and wait for your sticker and registration certificate to arrive – again in the old fashioned mailbox about a week later.

Now all there will be is a renewal notice for payment, but then nothing will get sent through the post right?

Well maybe.

If Queensland Transport can actually implement an email based system, this would be amazing.

As a licensed motor dealer, it is astounding how much paperwork is required to register and transfer registration for cars in Brisbane.

I operate a completely paperless business – EXCEPT for anything to do with Qld Transport and the Department of Fair Trading.

This is 2014 as I write and it is unbelievable to me they have no provision to make our business dealings paperless.

So let’s hope they can make this new initiative a foot in the right direction of paperless.

Time will tell.

But will it make any difference to you selling your car to me as a motor dealer in Brisbane today?

Not really.

To transfer a vehicle whether it is registered or unregistered just needs sight of proof of your ownership and a copy of your Qld Driver’s Licence.

If the government can pull its finger out and make registration a paperless process, all we will need is for you to forward a Qld Transport email with the registration papers attached.

Almost sounds too good to be true but let’s wait an see what October brings 🙂
