It Just Needs a Re-Gas

Have you ever heard this old chestnut before:

“Yeah, the air conditioning isn’t cold – it just needs a re-gas…”

I’m here to tell you it probably needs that – and a heap of other stuff done too.

In my long experience buying cars, about 4 in every 5 cars where the AC isn’t working, it is a busted compressor AND a re-gas.

If it was just the AC requiring a regas, this would only cost about $100 or so.

But add an AC compressor in the mix and you are up for hundreds of dollars.

A recent example is a 2006 Holden Astra we bought.

The lady came in suggesting a re-gas would fix the problem of the AC not being cold.

I explained all of the above to her and we settled on a price taking this into account.

Low and behold, the AC compressor was broken and the whole job to fix the air conditioning was $350 – and that is trade price.

To every day mum and dad getting this service done on a callout, the price would be circa $450.

We also did a VW Golf recently where the compressor blew.

German cars are expensive.

This one cost us $1,000 – at trade price!

So the moral of my stories is this:

If you are buying a car and they say “It just needs a re-gas” – don’t believe them and assume the worst.

If you come to me selling your car for cash in Brisbane and say “It just needs a re-gas” – you might honestly believe this, but experience will tell me to tell you that it most likely isn’t.

If you really think it is, then get it fixed yourself before trying to sell a car otherwise you will be punished on price.

Don’t get me wrong though – I will certainly buy a car where the AC isn’t working. Call me on 0411 362 229 and see if we can agree a price no matter what is right/wrong with your car. Just no wrecks please!
