An Engine Light..

Selling a used car in Brisbane and it has engine trouble?

I may still be interested.

Engine lights quite often mean thousands of dollars $$$ to fix.

Do not drive with them on for long periods of time!

You could be doing more damage to your engine.

As my mechanic told me – they don’t just come on for nothing.

But sometimes they are quite hard to fault find.

I bought a Mercedes Benz with an engine light one.

The computer’s error code seemed quite simple – engine mix too rich.

Which meant the fuel was being injected with too much oxygen affecting it’s idling.

Seems simple – so why then did it cost me $1,400 to fix?

Fault finding.

The mechanic after spending a few hours (costing money of course at an hourly rate) originally thought it would be the catalytic converter / O2 sensor.

But after locating and testing this, it was not faulty.

And some engines can be a real pain to get to parts.

A long story cut short, the previous owner had used a mechanic who took some short cuts.

He’d used non genuine water hoses and a weird control valve.

This was upsetting the car’s running ability.

And the hose’s locations and connections means a lot of additional parts had to be pulled off first before the hoses could be replaced.

This was more expensive because it was Mercedes Benz.

But any car with an engine light problem can be a hassle to fix.

If you have a car with the engine light on – don’t keep driving it!

You could be making the problem much worse.

And one thing can lead to another.

Another car I bought recently with an engine light on was a Honda Jazz.

It is always a risk for me buying cars with the engine light on.

But sometimes I take the punt.

If you can’t afford to get it fixed – or can’t be bothered, give me a call on 0411 362 229 and explain what the problem is as best as you can and I may be interested in buying it at my risk.
